Sadly it is looking like I won’t be able to fit in all of my planned Nepal trek.
I am two days behind schedule because of the heinous travel situation to get to the start of the trek and it doesn’t seem possible to make up that time. I think that became official this morning when I decided to go with the prescribed acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar rather than skipping it and pushing on. It seems like the right decision even if it means admitting and accepting I’ll miss part of my trek.
So far, going off script and not what I signed up for has been nothing short of hell so we’re sticking to the “original” plan rather than changing anything else up.
I wish I had more time and I wish I had organized this trip differently with hindsight being 20/20. I came here to be in the mountains so I wish I had maximized that with the longest possible trek in the Himalayas and plenty of wiggle room on both sides for the inevitable challenges.
The mountains aren’t going anywhere, but it’s hard to believe I’ll be in Nepal again anytime soon. So far in my very new career in multi-day hikes I haven’t had the best luck. My first trip in Peru was changed at the last minute, I sabotaged my Salkantay Trek by getting food poisoning and/or altitude sickness, and I have to adjust and shorten my Everest trek.
For now I’m just focused on making the safe decision and hopefully getting to Everest Base Camp as my goal. I’m trying my best not to focus on the disappointment of missing a beautiful leg of the trek and appreciating the beauty of what I do get to experience.
Still hopeful for some positive serendipity to even out this bad luck!
