First of all, I have no idea what I’m doing. Now that we’ve got that out of the way… welcome to my blog, Directionally Accurate.
My plan is to title my posts like this to be read as “Directionally accurate on ___,” with some topic to be discussed. This is part of the reason I landed on Directionally Accurate to name this blog. Name the blog, but also get the post titles for free. I’ll take that deal.
Directionally accurate is a phrase I’ve heard frequently in the working world; said by others, by me, to me, and to others and my basic takeaway is that it means a statement is mostly right, but probably not entirely correct.* It’s merely “directionally accurate.” I am anticipating that a lot of what I write on here could be described this way.
My goal for this blog is simply to write about what is interesting to me. Readers, if there are any, can expect posts about travel, learning, reading, hiking, investing, my brain, and life itself. The theme of this blog is essentially, me. I hope I can be helpful or entertaining in this online journaling process.
I will never claim to be the expert or arbiter of truth on anything that I discuss and I wan to make that as clear as possible with the title. I welcome debate, comments, and pushback on anything written on this blog if it’s done for the sake of learning. I might even listen and not get offended. No promises.
So in coming up with a name for this blog I thought about a few different directions…
- Something clever(ish) ex: Jack of Some Trades
- Perhaps an alliteration? ex: Snakes, Snorkeling, and SPF 100 (something along those lines was going to be my Australia blog in 2011… never happened…)
- A nod to my current travels? ex: Hit the Road Jack
But for whatever reason I kept going back to Directionally Accurate. There is just something about it that suits me and I think also describes the way that I live and travel. I generally know the broad strokes of where I’m going, but I always leave room to adjust my plans (or get terribly lost…). Now especially my path in travel and life is particularly vague, but I think I know where I’m going and I’m excited to share the journey.
Thanks.
*it can also mean the person who responds with “I think that’s directionally accurate” doesn’t in fact know whether something is correct or not, which I also like…
P.S. I don’t really know how to create a website so there will be changes here over time. I’m going with the “figure it out by doing” method.
